Life can come with anxiety, depression, mental health challenges, stress, emotional struggles and other trials.

But for the past two years, people around the world have adapted to these challenges by increasing their emotional resilience through a 10-week course and group meetings offered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Finding Strength in the Lord: Emotional Resilience” was created by the Church’s Self-Reliance Services to provide a resource for help and strength in the Savior.

In a new “Hear Him” video from the Church, posted Saturday, Nov. 11, Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé speaks about this course and how it can help.

“When we are in the middle of our trials, we can feel distant from the Savior,” Bishop Caussé said. “But we can hear Him and receive guidance, even through our trials, by learning about the best resources for our needs. In many cases, seeking professional, therapeutic or medical help when needed, and resources like the ‘Finding Strength in the Lord: Emotional Resilience’ course can make it easier to perceive the Lord’s guidance in your life.”

The course materials are available globally in 15 languages. Topics covered include building emotional resilience, developing healthy thinking patterns, managing stress and anxiety, understanding sadness and depression, overcoming anger, managing addictive behaviors and building healthy relationships.

Downloadable manuals and videos for the emotional resilience course are available at ChurchofJesusChrist.org. They can also be viewed on the Gospel Library app under “Life Help.” Physical copies of the manuals are available for purchase at Church distribution centers.

Those interested in the free training are encouraged to reach out to their local Church leaders to learn when groups are scheduled to meet in their areas.

“Mental illness and other emotional trials are not always in our control,” Bishop Caussé said in the video. “But we can make changes and seek help in order to strengthen our connection with and guidance from the Lord.”

Other self-reliance programs offered by the Church are “Personal Finances,” “Starting and Growing My Business,” “Find a Better Job“ and “Education for Better Work.”
