During the week of July 30 through Aug. 5, Church President Russell M. Nelson shared in a social media post Aug. 1 aobut six ways to disagree peacefully and respectfully. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was hospitalized for observation and treatment of ongoing health complications. The 147th episode of the Church News podcast featured teachings of the members of the First Presidency, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the Missionary Executive Council from the new “Preach My Gospel” manual.

A new Young Women general presidency of the Church began service Tuesday, Aug. 1. President Camille N. Johnson, Relief Society general president, highlighted Latter-day Saint ministering efforts to support one another and help the poor and the needy in a Church News video titled “The Source of Our Relief.” At the Brasília Brazil Temple’s open house media day, which took place Tuesday, Aug. 1, Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said “It has a lot of light, and brings light, and shows light to the people … and that can be a conduit of the Spirit to help people know more about the gospel of Jesus Christ.” The Church released interior and exterior images of the Brasília temple on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

Reservations became available online to tour the Bangkok Thailand Temple during the public open house, the San Diego California Temple closed for renovations, and the Moses Lake Washington Temple began its open house phase. The Church started to offer print subscriptions at no cost to its three magazines, which are currently published in 50 languages and distributed to millions of members worldwide. “Luz de las Nacionesis scheduled to take place in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m.

In a social media post Aug. 1, President Nelson shared six ways to disagree peacefully and respectfully.

President Nelson credited his two counselors in the First Presidency, President Dallin H. Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring, for teaching him how to offering differences of opinion and “how to disagree in a Christlike way.”

Elder Holland was hospitalized for observation and treatment of ongoing health complications, according to a Thursday, Aug. 3, statement from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“Elder Holland is grateful for the many prayers offered in his behalf in recent weeks for his health and during this time of mourning,” said the Aug. 3 statement published on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

The 147th episode of the Church News podcast, the second of two special episodes, featured members of the First Presidency, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the Missionary Executive Council testifying of the reality of the Restoration, the importance of sharing the gospel and the blessings that come from studying the new “Preach My Gospel” manual.

A new Young Women general presidency of the Church began service Tuesday, Aug. 1. Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman and her counselors, Sister Tamara W. Runia, first counselor, and Sister Andrea Muñoz Spannaus, second counselor, were sustained during the April 2023 general conference.

Nearly 500 government officials, members of the media and other influential members of the community visited the Brasília Brazil Temple during the new temple’s open house media day, Tuesday, Aug. 1.

During the event, Elder Soares said “It has a lot of light, and brings light, and shows light to the people … and that can be a conduit of the Spirit to help people know more about the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

In conjunction with the media day, the Church released interior and exterior images of the temple on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

The San Diego California Temple closed for renovations, which were announced earlier this year.

The Moses Lake Washington Temple began its open-house phase, starting with a media day gathering for local journalists and invited guests Monday morning, July 31.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is offering print subscriptions at no cost to its three magazines, which are currently published in 50 languages and distributed to millions of members worldwide.

Beginning Aug. 1, 2023, anyone with a Church account in certain parts of the world will be able to sign up for one annual subscription (per household) to one or more of the Church’s magazines: the Liahona (for adults), For the Strength of Youth (for youth ages 12 to 18) and Friend (for children).

The new subscription system will roll out to the rest of the world over the next several months. It will be an ongoing offer in the years to come.

9. Church announces performance dates for annual ‘Luz de las Naciones’ in Conference Center

Luz de las Naciones” (Light of the Nations), an annual celebration of Latin American culture hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is scheduled to take place in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m.

The announcement was made in an article on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

Now in its 21st year, the international event will feature a cast of 1,000 volunteer musical artists wearing traditional clothing and performing music and dances representing Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Panama and Peru, as well as Spain.
