In the early hours of Wednesday, Oct. 25, Hurricane Otis made landfall on the southern coast of Mexico.

The Category 5 storm sustained winds of 165 miles (300 kilometers) per hour. Reuters called Otis one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the country.

The wind and rain damaged several cities in the Mexican state of Guerrero, knocking over trees and flooding streets. Acapulco also suffered landslides and lost power and cellphone service, according to USA Today.
