Temple will be built in Bountiful, Utah
The First Presidency has confirmed plans to build a temple in Bountiful, a community of about 34,000 located just north of Salt Lake City.
The site is located at 600 S. Bountiful Blvd. (1650 East) in the Bountiful foothills. In a letter to regional representatives and stake presidents in the Davis County area of Utah, dated Feb. 2, the First Presidency referred to a May 28, 1988, announcement that property had been purchased in Bountiful for "the possible construction of a temple."
"We have now determined to undertake the construction of a temple on this site," stated the letter, which was read at local stake conferences and at other meetings on Feb. 18.
"We are confident that this announcement will be welcomed by the many faithful Latter-day Saints residing in the Davis County area," the letter stated.
The 1988 announcement in the Church News noted that while there were no plans for immediate construction, an approximate nine-acre site had been acquired.
"The Bountiful site is on the high east bench, affording a panoramic view of the valley and the Great Salt Lake to the west," stated the Church News article.
With the Bountiful and recently announced Orlando Florida temples, the Church now has 49 temples operating, being built or planned.
