President Russell M. Nelson announced a temple for Viña del Mar just last month in the October 2023 general conference, one of 20 temple locations identified on Oct. 1.

It will be the fifth house of the Lord in the South American country, joining the Santiago Chile Temple (dedicated in 1983) and Concepción Chile Temple (2018). The Antofagasta Chile Temple has been under construction since November 2020, and the Santiago West Chile Temple is still in planning, having been announced in October 2021 and with a site location released in December 2022.

More than 600,000 Latter-day Saints in over 570 congregations reside in Chile.

Grand Rapids Michigan Temple

The artist’s rendering of the Grand Rapids Michigan Temple comes nearly a year after the Nov. 7, 2022, release of the site location.

Plans call for a single-story building of approximately 20,000 square feet to be built on a 10.5-acre site at 2400 Forest Hill Ave. in Grand Rapids.

The temple was one of 18 announced by President Nelson in October 2022 general conference. It will be the second house of the Lord in the state, joining the Detroit Michigan Temple, which was dedicated in October 1999.

More than 45,000 Latter-day Saints comprising nearly 100 congregations reside in Michigan. The first Latter-day Saints in the area were baptized only a year after the Church’s 1830 organization.
